Lighthouse Rentals:

Basic Information | Gay Head Light | East Chop Light | Edgartown Light | FAQ | Contact

What could be more romantic than getting married in the shadow of one of the Island's historic lighthouses? Try to picture gentle ocean breezes, the hues and fragrance of lush beach roses, and the fabulous water views. Just imagine the pictures! Although receptions are not allowed, each of the lighthouses offers a unique experience for a wedding ceremony. Please call Ree Kuser to find out more about this one-of-a-kind setting at: 508-939-9155 or email at . You can also consult the MVM Weddings (link) page for rental information.

The fee for the use of the Gay Head, East Chop or Edgartown Lighthouse is $300 per hour

In 1993, the Martha's Vineyard Museum assumed the care and maintenance of three of the Island's treasured landmarks: the Edgartown Lighthouse, Gay Head Lighthouses, and East Chop Lighthouse. The Museum encourages the use of these facilities for private functions.

The fee for the use of a Lighthouse is $300 per hour.  When figuring your time use, please calculate the anticipated time from "gate" opening until "gate" closure. Such time would include the delivery and prompt pickup of any chairs. To confirm your reservation, please complete the Lighthouse Reservation Rental Formand return it with a deposit of $100.00. Reservation confirmations are on a "first-come, first served" basis. The Museum can not confirm your reservation until we receive the completed form along with your deposit. After your reservation has been confirmed, the deposit becomes nonrefundable.

The balance will be due no later than 30 days prior to the event. Please note: Tents are not permitted on lighthouse grounds, so we strongly urge that you have a contingency plan for inclement weather. If you are unable to use the lighthouse grounds due to rain, the Museum will refund your money, less the deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions-Regarding the Rental of a Lighthouse

How do I reserve a lighthouse?
You must complete the reservation form and return it with a $100.00 nonrefundable deposit to the Martha's Vineyard Museum. Confirmation is done on a "first come, first-served" basis.

Can my guests go in the lighthouse?
Yes, after the ceremony. The lighthouse keeper will be on hand and will open the lighthouse for the private enjoyment of you and your guests. (We are sorry to say that, at this time, the Edgartown Lighthouse cannot be opened.)

What if it rains?
We suggest that you make an alternative plan in case of rain. The MVM will refund your payment, less the $100 deposit, if the ceremony at the lighthouse has to be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Is there electricity for music?
Yes, any musician, however, must provide a 100-foot extension cord. Please keep the music soft and fitting to the tranquil setting.

Can we have decorations?
Yes, but we do not recommend them. No balloons.

Can we rehearse?
Yes, but you need to include rehearsal time in your reservation fee. Most couples do not have a rehearsal.

Can we have tents, portable toilets, alcoholic beverages, or chairs?
No tents, portable toilets, or alcoholic beverages. There are public restrooms nearby at Gay Head. You may provide chairs at the Gay Head and East Chop Lighthouses.
