Martha's Vineyard Museum MV Museum

Gay Head LighthouseYour support is vital to the Martha's Vineyard Museum because we exist for you and the many others like you who love this island, care about its special culture and centuries-old history. The museum's mission is to gather, preserve and share those objects, documents and artifacts that tell the story of Martha's Vineyard, from its ancient past through the Wampanoag settlements through the Colonial Period right up to the 21st Century. Our stewardship of this vast history is a responsibility we take very seriously, and we invite you to show that you understand and appreciate that responsibility by making a gift to the Martha's Vineyard Museum's Annual Fund.

We work hard throughout the year to preserve and protect the island treasures we hold in trust for the future. We display those treasures in exhibitions we hope make the Vineyard's past come alive for our visitors. We offer lectures, films, discussion groups and children's programming that inform and entertain. Grant funding from charitable foundations and agencies underwrites a small portion of what we do; however, we depend on membership dues, admission fees, and especially annual gifts to keep the museum vibrant and healthy. Because we are committed to remaining a cultural resource available to all, we work hard to keep our dues reasonable and our fees modest.

The Museum puts annual fund gifts to work for many purposes: to help pay the electric bill, for example, or restore a portrait of a 19th Century whaling captain to its original splendor, keep the Fresnel lens in working order and our genealogical library open and available. Whenever you visit the Martha's Vineyard Museum and lose yourself in an exhibition or learn something new at one of our lectures, you see Annual Fund gifts put to good use. Your gift makes a difference!
