Biography/Historical Note

Tisbury is an English village situated in the Nadder Valley, in the county of Wiltshire. Born and raised in Tisbury, Thomas Mayhew (1593-1682) purchased the development rights for Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. He and his family established the first English settlement on Martha's Vineyard as well as the townships of Tisbury and Chilmark, both named after villages in England.

This collection is comprised of various donations of material relating to Tisbury, England. It includes correspondence, guidebooks, newspaper clippings, notes, photographic and regular postcards, and publications. Accession numbers for traceable donations are written on the folders.
