Biography/Historical Note
The genealogical research of Harriet Marshall Pease (1840-1907) and her father Richard L. Pease, provided the basis for Dr. Charles E. Banks’ definitive History of Martha’s Vineyard. A professional genealogist, Harriet Pease continued her father’s work on the early families of Martha’s Vineyard.
Scope and Content of Collection
The Pease Papers consist of genealogical research notes, publications on early families and old burial places, and correspondence from those seeking their Vineyard ancestors, often for membership in The Daughters of the American Revolution or The Society of Mayflower Descendants and the hundreds of ancestry questionaires sent descendants of old Vineyard families throughout the United States by Miss Pease and her associate, Mrs A.C. Pratt.
